Sorith is a ranking member of the Brillouin Trade Bank, which does business across the Firmament. The bank is over-leveraged due to some bad trades. She needs to win on Vespersa to avoid scandal.

Sorith is also the one Dusana struck the bargain with to establish the Broker Academy on Altareth. Her Board of Directors–the four Trade Union bosses on Alatareth–all receive a royalty on the lease of the large dock tract. And it is said Sorith has private access, and has been using it to advance her own broker and agent skills. She does this because her father was an indentured servant out of the Malikai system, who won her freedom–though not his own–in a savvy card game. When he was taken back, her father found her a trade apprenticeship with the Myakon, with whom–though as a senior Trade Bank officer she cannot admit–she is still friendly (and some would say indebted.)
